Lewis offers the Calanais Standing Stones (the island's must-see, with a newly opened visitor centre in 2026), the Blackhouse Village at Arnol, and the wild coastline of the Butt of Lewis. The drive from Stornoway to Calanais takes about 35 minutes on the A859 and A858.
The road south into Harris crosses a dramatic mountain pass before descending to the west coast beaches. Luskentyre, Seilebost, and Scarista are all accessed from the A859 — each more stunning than the last. Luskentyre is best visited at low tide, when the vast white sands and turquoise water are at their most expansive.
